January Chapter Meeting

  •  January 9, 2017
     11:30 am - 1:00 pm

Topic: Workplace Violence, Women, and What You Need to Do

More and more, safety professionals are being tasked with understanding and mitigating the risk of workplace violence.  Companies are trying to learn their liability and their legal requirements. In fact, while the leading cause of death of men in the workplace is roadway incidents, the leading cause of death for women in the workplace is homicide. With many organizations admitting they have no workplace violence prevention program, even fewer address the risk that domestic violence can have on their organization. Business leaders agree that domestic violence is a problem that affects their workplaces.

This presentation seeks to inform attendees of the very real risk to their business from workplace violence, specifically intimate partner violence. This session will answer the questions that safety professionals and executives will have. What is our risk? What is our liability? What are we required to do? Can we actually prevent events like these? Can we terminate the person who is bringing this risk to us and should we? When the risk to your business and your employees is from an outside source, like an employee’s spouse, how can you control and mitigate that risk? This discussion will shed light on the potential risks from workplace violence to all workers, delve specifically into domestic violence and the risk to female workers, and discuss appropriate precautions that an organization can and must take in order to properly mitigate their risk.
